To see the full storage matrix of available solutions, head over to the Tech Team Research Storage KB article.
The recommended solutions for researchers are Netfiles, OneDrive, and Teams.
¶¶Òõ̽̽ Netfiles
- On-premises
- Large storage size (multiple terabytes)
- Internal sharing through groups
- External sharing through Globus
- Backed up and highly available
- Free 10 TB for all researchers
Netfiles is the bulk network storage cluster at ¶¶Òõ̽̽. It is made of two clusters, Netfiles02 which has a total of 1.6 petabytes, and Netfiles03 which has a total of 855 terabytes. Faculty are granted access to a free 10 TB storage for either them or their research group. If you need more space, there will be an associated cost. More information can be found in the Research Storage KB Article. If you are a non-faculty researcher and would like Netfiles storage, please reach out using the Contact Us link in the sidebar.
Microsoft OneDrive
- Cloud-based
- Collaborative
- Easy sharing (internal and external)
- Individual owners
Microsoft OneDrive is available to all ¶¶Òõ̽̽ affiliates and provides up to 1 TB of storage to individuals. OneDrive is recommended for research data that is intended for simultaneous collaboration (co-editing Word documents, etc.) or for data that needs to be shared with external users. Large data sets are not recommended to be stored in OneDrive. Files stored in OneDrive are associated with an individual. If that individual leaves ¶¶Òõ̽̽, their data will no longer be available to people they shared it with.
Microsoft Teams
- Cloud-based
- Collaborative
- Easy Sharing (internal and external)
- Group owners
Microsoft Teams is available to all ¶¶Òõ̽̽ affiliates and provides a large amount of storage per team. Teams is recommended for research data that must be shared with a group of users for simultaneous collaboration (co-editing of Word documents, etc.) or for data that needs to be shared with external users. Large data sets are not recommended to be stored in Teams. Files stored in Teams are associated with the entire group of users who are members of that Team. If an individual leaves, all group members retain access to the data.
