    Network Services manages network and phone service in 293 buildings on campus and 19 offsite facilities including State-wide Extension sites, Morgan Horse Farm and the Horticulture Farm.

Network and Telecommunications efforts have changed drastically in recent years and our office has needed to revise our structure and business model to better meet the current needs of the campus and our university community.

The world has moved away from land lines in favor of communication over the Internet. To better reflect this technology, we are changing our name to Network Services and will continue to transition to a VoIP (Voice over IP) phone system instead of an analog system. We hope to have all departments converted to the new VoIP system by the end of FY25.

Due to these changes, it became necessary to adjust the funding model for Network Services. Our new funding model will be in place starting in FY26. However, during the transition year FY25, current funding levels remain frozen. This was communicated by the Vice President of Finance & Administration earlier this spring. This means that for FY25, there will be no monthly fee reduction if you request a phone or data line disconnection. We will disconnect the line but there will still be a monthly charge for it as a Communications fee. It will be a 2xxxx number reflected on your bill.Ìý Thank you for your understanding and please reach out with any questions.

VoIP Conversion -

We are currently in the process of replacing the redundant PBX that was installed in the 1990's.Ìý We are going to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) platform.Ìý It requires new phones and adequate wiring.Ìý The new system allows for more flexibility and user independence.

External Call Forwarding

We have received many requests to allow forwarding of Nortel phone numbers to cell and home phones as folks start to work remotely.Ìý We are not forwarding campus numbers to any number off campus.Ìý There are two options to handle this situation:

1) You can re-record your Nortel Voicemail message to include the appropriate cell phone number so that callers can reach you directly.

2) You can allow all calls to go to your Nortel Voicemail mailbox; you will need to check Voicemail frequently and return calls as needed.
