ApplicationXtender at ¶¶Òõ̽̽

ApplicationXtender (AX) is a suite of products for capturing paper documents into a digital archive for indexing and subsequent retrieval. These services were implemented in a cooperative venture between ETS and several other departments on campus.

ApplicationXtender Web Access (WebX) is the web-based interface to documents captured by the AX system. WebX is compatible with most browsers, but advanced features require Internet Explorer version 7+ on Windows (ActiveX controls and a Java runtime are required). Advanced features of WebX include the ability to scan new documents through the browser, annotate scanned documents, and access a greater variety of captured document types quickly. No additional software is required.

Some of the major users of ApplicationXtender are Human Resource Services, Dean's Office of the Graduate College, Administrative Facilities Services, Procurement Services, Admissions, Student Financial Services, and Registrar. Many staff members outside of these departments also require access to documents in the system.

Off-campus access requires a VPN connection. See our KB article, SSLVPN2 Cisco AnyConnect.

Banner Administrative Pages (formerly Banner INB) includes a connector to AX for the storage and retrieval of digital documents for Banner records.

Frequently Asked Questions About WebX at ¶¶Òõ̽̽

Will WebX work correctly in macOS?
Body

Yes!  WebX fully supports macOS browsers. It has been tested at ¶¶Òõ̽̽ using Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Microsoft Edge.

What password should I be using to log into WebX?
Body

The system uses Active Directory for authentication. You should provide your ¶¶Òõ̽̽ NetID and password at the login screen (the same credentials you use for your University email). If login still fails, try resynchronizing your password at the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ account management.

How do I activate the Interactive Viewer in WebX?
Body

Interactive viewing is the default mode in WebX 16 and therefore does not need to be enabled (nor can it be turned off). You do not need to install any ActiveX controls, and it's available in both macOS and Windows browsers. When viewing documents in WebX 16, you have several annotation and editing tools available on the toolbar above the document.

How do I activate thumbnail views in WebX?
Body

There are two ways to view thumbnails while looking at documents:

  1. Change your settings to always view them
    1. Click your login name on the title bar and select User Settings
    2. Click Document View
    3. Check the "Show Page Thumbnails" box
    4. Click Save
  2. Expand the thumbnails sidebar as desired when viewing documents

Note: Thumbnails only appear on multi-page documents.

You can also preview documents in the Query Results by hovering your cursor over the document icon. If the preview does not appear, you'll need to turn on the feature in your settings:

  1. Click your login name on the title bar and select User Settings
  2. Click Search/Result Set
  3. Check the "Enable Preview Thumbnails for Each Document in Query Results" box
  4. Click Save
How do I set up WebX so that I can see more results listed?
Body

You cannot configure WebX to return all matching results, but you can increase the number of results displayed per page:

  1. In your settings:
    1. Click your login name on the title bar and select User Settings
    2. Click Search/Result Set
    3. Change the "Query Results Page Size Limit" to the desired number of results per page, up to 500. (If you try to exceed 500, you will get an error.)
    4. Click Save
  2. On the results page:
    1. In the bottom-right corner of the window, select a number from the "Items per page" pop-up menu. (This will also change the value in your settings.)
How do I export my WebX query results to Microsoft Excel?
Body

There is currently no direct way to do this from within WebX. However, you can export the query results list as a tab-separated-values (.tsv) text file, which you can then open in Excel.

  1. Check the topmost selection box at the upper-left corner of the list ("select all"), or one to the left of any document. A small panel will appear at the top of the list.
  2. On the Export dropdown menu, choose Export All Indexes
Depending on your browser, you may be prompted to save or open the file, or it will simply be saved to your Downloads folder.
  3. You can then open it with Excel or any text editor.
Why do I get an error message saying that my session has expired?
Body

If you see this error when clicking the Next Page or Next Document buttons while viewing documents, check which database that you are logged into. (This will be shown when viewing your Application List.) WebX may be assuming that you are trying to access the default database (Production: IMGP or Test: IMGX). Simply select the correct database such as "PROD" and log in.

Why am I not able to see "Enable Interactive Viewer" in User Settings?
Body

The Active Directory group that assigns privileges to your department application may need to be added to the "ETS-AX Masters" Group. Contact your department's ApplicationXtender administrator (if known), or Identity and Account Management (iam@uvm.edu / 802-656-2006).
