Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system is coming to the end of support. This will mean that all Windows 10 computers on campus will need to be upgraded or replaced by mid October. ETS is working on plans to assist with this transition. Please note the following information regarding the use of Windows 10 on ¶¶Òõ̽̽-owned Windows computers.
What is happening?
Microsoft has announced that the "end of life" (EOL) for Windows 10 will be October 18, 2025. This means they won’t provide any further security updates or patches available for Windows 10 and that software providers will no longer be obligated to support anything prior to Windows 11 in their future releases.
Why is it important?
Aside from the ¶¶Òõ̽̽-wide security risks associated with running a computer with an obsolete operating system on our network, you will have the following issues with increasing frequency:
- Software won't install because your computer doesn't meet the minimum system requirements.
- You will be out of compliance with ¶¶Òõ̽̽ IT security policy.
Is my computer affected?
If your computer is running Windows 10 of any version, then yes. If you are unsure if your computer runs Windows 10 or 11, follow these instructions in the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Knowledge Base article, Windows 10 Support Ending.
Timeline
We plan to have the bulk of ¶¶Òõ̽̽-managed Windows 10 computers either migrated to Windows 11 or removed from service by the start of the Fall Semester 2025.
Plan
ETS will be compiling information from logs and management databases to determine which computers on campus are Windows 10. We will partner with business managers and leadership to share as much information as we can to help plan for the effort of upgrading or replacing Windows 10 computers. More information will be posted as it is developed.
