The Gund Institute for Environment and the University of Vermont seek outstanding candidates for a new role——to communicate environmental research and expertise to external audiences and advance our impact, partnerships, and reputation.
The Gund Strategic Communications Manager will bolster ¶¶Òõ̽̽’s news and media relations team by identifying and pitching newsworthy research and scholarly experts to national and regional journalists covering the environment, sustainability, and other relevant topics, and responding effectively to media requests in coordination with ¶¶Òõ̽̽ colleagues.
Guided by ¶¶Òõ̽̽’s Amplifying Our Impact and the Gund Institute’s mission of understanding and tackling critical environmental challenges, the successful candidate will produce multimedia stories and strategies (digital, print, video)—including news releases, expert profiles, features, pitches, and social media posts—to communicate effectively with target audiences, including journalists, policymakers, community partners, donors, stakeholders, prospective students, and alumni.
The Gund Strategic Communications Manager will also manage and develop the Institute’s social media, website, and new email products, build capacity by providing communications trainings to Gund/¶¶Òõ̽̽ scholars, ensure alignment with ¶¶Òõ̽̽ and Gund communications strategy and leadership, and have the opportunity to supervise freelance communicators and student interns.
As part of the Gund Institute for Environment and ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Strategic Communications, this position will work in collaboration with the Gund Strategic Communications Director and the Director of University Communications. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of ¶¶Òõ̽̽ and the Gund Institute. SALARY: The hiring salary is budgeted between the high-point ($74,100/year) and the midpoint ($56,550/year), commensurate with the candidate’s skills and experience, plus benefits.
