Gund faculty fellows are accomplished ¶¶Òõ̽̽ faculty who have a long-term and deep engagement with the Institute.
Faculty fellows are widely recognized scholars who serve as thought leaders and help to shape the research agenda of the Institute.
Nomination Process
The Gund Institute welcomes nominations for new faculty fellows from September 25 through November 1, 2024.
- Faculty fellows must be current faculty at ¶¶Òõ̽̽ who have terminal degrees in their fields.
- The nomination process consists of: a short email from a nominator familiar with the Gund Institute or the nominee to the Gund Institute Director of Operations and Programs (julianna.m.white@uvm.edu); a CV and a letter of interest submitted via InfoReady by November 1; and a public research presentation in spring 2025 (Julianna will send the InfoReady link to nominees and coordinate to schedule talks).
- In November or early December 2024, Gund staff will contact nominees to schedule a public research presentation in the spring semester. The Gund Institute Faculty Fellows Committee, comprised of three to five faculty fellows, will review letters and CVs and attend research presentations in late spring 2025.
- Decisions will be based on the following criteria: academic and research accomplishments; interdisciplinary research; collaboration and willingness to engage; alignment with Gund Institute research themes and foci; commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- The Gund Institute Faculty Fellows Committee will review and recommend nominations and reappointments to the Director by May 2025.
- The Director will make the final decisions and notify nominees in May and June 2025.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate regularly with other Gund Fellows on transdisciplinary research.
- Participate and present regularly in Gund seminars and events.
- Participate in all faculty fellows meetings.
- Serve on standing and ad hoc committees.
- Publish via open access principles and share Gund-related research papers or reports with Institute colleagues and staff.
- Support graduate education (e.g., guest lecturing, mentoring).
- Participate annually in active learning in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) through participation in Gund-sponsored or other activities.
- Communicate Gund affiliation in websites, emails, publications, social media.
- Acknowledge Gund financial support in relevant publications.
- Inform the Gund regarding changes in professional status.
Reappointment
Faculty fellows are appointed to renewable three-year terms. In the spring of 2025, one-third of faculty fellows (those who have been with the Gund Institute for the longest) will participate in the review and reappointment process. One-third of fellows will participate in this process each year until all faculty fellows are on schedule. The process involves: self-evaluation, including election whether to renew and engage, via survey; survey review and recommendation by the Gund Institute Faculty Fellows Committee to the Director; Director or Gund leadership team follow-up with the fellow.
