Catamount Community Schools Collaborative (CCSC)

CCSC Core Faculty Bernice Garnett, Colby Kervick and Peter Knox

Community Schools are resource hubs that provide a broad range of well-coordinated supports and services for students and families. The CCSC seeks to address systemic issues of inequity in educational and health access among Vermont rural communities.

With a particular focus on rural communities, the CCSC is dynamic research-practice-partnership (RPP) between community school partners, the Vermont Agency of Education, and ¶¶Òõ̽̽ to support a sustainable ecosystem of community schools across Vermont. 

CCSC Expands Transformative Model Across Vermont

Cultivating Collaborative and Resilience-Oriented Practices in Special Educators (C-CROPS)

Shana Haines and Jessica Strolling-Goltzman

Dr. Shana Haines and Dr. Jessica Strolin-Goltzman received a grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) to address the shortage of special educators. C-CROPS will provide tuition and innovative programming for graduate students to become licensed special educators prepared to serve students with high intensity social-emotional-behavioral needs and emotional disabilities. The project will also create a network of educators working collaboratively to sustain their engagement in the profession.

In his , Dr. Mathew McCluskey's research identifies that impacting the nationwide issue of teacher turnover, offering recommendations to improve retention and reduce the contagion effect.

Brittany "Brit" K. Williams

Dr. Brittany M. Williams is a National Academy of Education (NAEd)/ Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow serving in the Higher Education and Student Affairs graduate program at ¶¶Òõ̽̽. Williams delivered the keynote address at the 2023 ACPA College Student Educators International convention. She is a recipient of the 2024 ACPA Emerging Scholar Award, the 2023 ACPA Research and Scholarship Award, Coalition of Women’s Identities. Her national media appearances include National Public Radio, Teach for America, the National Black Women’s Health Imperative. 

Project CORE: Participatory Action Research

Project CORE research team members Bernice Garnett, Anna Elliott, Peter Knox, Colby Kervick, Lance Smith, and Amanda Simpfenderfer.

is an interdisciplinary research team focusing on community-based, participatory action research in support of educational and health equity in local communities. They utilize transformative mixed-methods community and youth participatory action research to advance school and social change.
