BIO

Jason Konefal is a sociologist whose research and teaching interests focus on governance and sustainability in food and agriculture. He has extensive experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses on the environment, governance, social movements, social change, and social theory. His research examines the impacts of governance practices and market relations on farmer practices and agricultural sustainability. Previous research projects include the use of market-based strategies by environmental advocacy organizations, the development of multi-stakeholder sustainability governance initiatives, and the implementation of standards and metrics at the farm-level. His most recent research examines the role of data-driven governance and digital technologies in enhancing agricultural sustainability. Dr. Konefal also has extensive academic leadership experience He has served as both a graduate director and department chair and is currently the chair of the Community Development and Applied Economics (CDAE) department.
