The Department of Community Development and Applied Economics is thrilled to welcomes Veronica Pham, an artist, educator, and designer, as the newest Design Lecturer following a national search. As noted in her website, Pham works primarily in handmade paper and fiber arts in her studio practice. Her work focuses on traditional craft specific to Vietnamese and Chinese histories to spark conversation on process, labor, cultural identity, and memory.
In Pham’s Fall 2024 Communication Design 1 Class, a class where students work on directed projects which explore the elements and principles of communication design, students will be using collected textile waste from the sustainable fashion class at CDAE, recycled political posters, and local plant waste material to make paper to distribute “GET OUT TO VOTE” cards to our community.
“This is especially important for students to think about how they are using materials, thinking about solving real-world problems, and encouraging other students, and members within the community to make an impact during our election year,” explained Pham.
Photos of the projects that students are working on will be featured on the .
