Summer Research Fellowship

Through this program, students receive a stipend of $4,000 to conduct cancer-related basic, clinical/translational, or population science research with a ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Cancer Center researcher.

This program offers students a broad spectrum of cancer research opportunities in disciplines ranging from surgery, pharmacology, and radiation oncology to biochemistry, pathology, and psychiatry. The summer research program culminates in an end-of-program poster session where students can share their work with ¶¶Òõ̽̽ staff, faculty and students. Each mentor also receives up to $1,000 to use for project-related expenses.  

Graduate and medical students are eligible for the Juckett Scholar Award. Two awardees are selected based on their application scores. Juckett Scholars receive an additional $1,000 stipend ($5,000 total) and have additional opportunities to present their research to ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Cancer Center affiliated groups, such as the Juckett Foundation.

Eligibility

  • Eligible candidates are undergraduate students, medical students, and graduate students from any of the university’s colleges.  

  • Mentors must be a ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Cancer Center Full, Associate, Clinical or Core Clinical Member with a cancer-focused project. 

  • Students with alternative salary or stipend support for the summer should reach out with any questions before submitting their application.

  • All awards will be reviewed with Student Financial Services in order to minimize any financial aid implications. 

Program Requirements

  • Students are expected to support the research project on a full-time basis over an 8-week period during the months of June through August. Students will work with their mentors to identify a specific schedule.   

  • *New this year* All students must apply with a mentor. For students who do not currently have a mentor identified, please review the Mentor Selection tab for a list of available mentors and their projects. Students will need to reach out directly to those members to indicate their interest in working together.  

  • All applications must include an Advisor Statement of Support from the student's identified mentor. 

  • All students will be expected to participate in an end-of-program poster session. The Cancer Center will cover expenses related to poster printing.

  • If you have a mentor identified, you should work with your mentor to apply together.

If you are interested in a particular project and would like to work with the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Cancer Center member, please contact them using the email listed in the table. Please note: the student level that the mentor is looking to be matched with is located on the far right column of the table.
