Fab FOUR Plus FOUR

Fab FOUR

The “Fab FOUR” fellowships are those we advise on most often and most intensively. These four fellowship programs tend to resonate with ̽̽ students’ values and strengths. We advise on Fulbright, Truman, Udall, and Goldwater year-round; there’s no wrong time to reach out about these fellowships. All four application processes require applicants to receive intensive advising from FOUR, write numerous application drafts, consult their faculty mentors, and spend significant time researching and planning for their futures. All four of these programs require letters of recommendation.

With some exceptions, prospective applicants should reserve a minimum of three months to prepare an application for any of these opportunities. If you’re wondering whether you have enough time remaining to apply before a campus deadline, don’t assume it’s too late; always reach out to ask.

To get started, browse our webpage dedicated to the each of these fellowships; visit the programs’ websites; and if you’re serious about applying, fill out the appropriate Intent to Apply form when applicable. A FOUR representative will contact you within a week of your Intent to Apply submission.

“FOUR more” Fellowships

In addition to the “Fab FOUR” fellowships, FOUR advises on a cluster of scholarships for study abroad. CLS and the Fulbright U.K. Summer Institutes administer their own fully-fledged programs. The Boren and Gilman Scholarships, however, provide scholarship money and programming for participants who apply with a third-party study abroad program of their choice.

In many cases, CLS, Boren, Gilman, and the U.K. Summer Institutes support students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in study abroad. While the timing of these opportunities varies widely, applicants for these four programs are often early in their college careers. Prospective applicants for this cluster of opportunities should work closely with their academic advisor(s) to ensure participation does not hinder their progress toward graduation. Applicants for these awards—including those who do not receive the award—tend to be strong candidates for other fellowships like the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, the Truman Scholarship, and others.

To get started, browse our webpages dedicated to each of these opportunities; visit the programs’ websites; and, if you’re serious about applying, contact us to discuss the application process.
