Gund Graduate Fellow, Rubenstein School of Environmental and Natural Resources

Anna Maassel is a PhD student at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources and a graduate fellow at the Gund Institute. Her research focuses on the intersection of human well-being and the environment, exploring how landscapes influence health and how these insights can shape policy and decision-making. Currently, she is collaborating with the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Medical Center to study the impact of the 2023 Canadian wildfire smoke on asthma in Vermont children.
Anna brings a diverse and interdisciplinary background to her work. She holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Bucknell University and an MS in Agroforestry from the University of Missouri, where her thesis examined the effectiveness of constructed wetlands in removing pharmaceuticals and personal care products from treated wastewater in Columbia, MO. Before and during her MS studies, she worked as a research engineer and patent agent for an international materials company.
