BIO

Dr. Banda teaches Social Welfare Policy and Services courses for the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs at ¶¶Òõ̽̽. She recently completed her postdoctoral research fellowship at Arizona State University's Office of Gender-Based Violence. She earned a Ph.D. in Social Work and a graduate certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies from the University of Kansas. She also hold an MSW from Grambling State University.

As an international and transnational scholar, Dr. Banda's research focuses on advancing human rights, social justice, and gender equality, and preventing gender-based violence, such as child marriage and intimate partner violence (IPV). Her research agenda is formed around the following areas: 

  • policy and innovation in implementation approaches;
  • the impact of laws and policies on ending violence research;
  • evidence-based initiatives to promote sustainable practices on ending GBV, including child marriage and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). 

Dr. Banda’s research is grounded in years of work on several global and national-level campaigns such as designing a five-year national campaign on ending child marriage in Malawi and a campaign on ending violence against children.
