Program Overview

Our Community Schools Micro-Certificate of Graduate Studies (mCGS) offers a distinct learning experience aligned with local and national trends toward more inclusive, approachable, and effective methods that support student, family, and community wellbeing and development. The mCGS is nested as a pathway within the Resiliency-Based Approaches Certificate of Graduate Study.

Community schools foster a sense of belonging while promoting positive student and family resilience and positive outcomes. The approach is an effective and applicable method for providing wraparound services that address the multifaceted needs of students and families.

The community schools concept is grounded within an interdisciplinary ecological systems theory framework that emphasizes the interplay between education, community development, and social services. This provides a useful lens for understanding how schools can function as a microcosm of the broader community.

Community schools facilitate interactions between students, families, educators, and local organizations, including institutions of higher education in ways that promote resiliency for students, families and community.
