In an extraordinary tour de force, the Lyonnaise baroque orchestra Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu is joined by Italian soprano Roberta Mameli to create Ghosts of Hamlet, an original project based on recently discovered fragments of Hamlet libretti. Using previously unpublished music by Scarlatti, Gasparini, Carcani and Vignati, the piece is a very different, female-centric version of Hamlet, focusing on the romantic Veremonda (Ophelia) and Hamlet's mother Gerilda (Gertrude), torn between love for her son and passion for her cold, unfaithful husband. Mameli, a major European opera star and an extraordinarily charismatic soprano, takes on both roles. The tour is extremely limited; we are one of the very few presenters of this dramatic work, and we are honored to bring this to our stage.
