Utility Engineering

About Us

Body

The University Engineer and the Utility Engineering team has oversight for utility planning and strategy development to ensure that current- and long-range needs for critical utilities are met with reliable, efficient and cost-effective systems. The team plans and manages major and minor projects related to campus utility systems. This includes all mechanical and electrical aspects of systems, completing energy and master utility planning, and new major construction scoping.

Projects are critical for the University to:

  • Lower utility costs by reducing energy consumption,
  • Increase system reliability and efficiency,
  • Ensure system capacity meets campus demand, and
  • Address deferred maintenance on major utility infrastructure.

Work is completed in house and/or with contracted consulting engineers. Close coordination with the Executive Director of Facilities Management and campus partners in Planning, Design & Constructionsical Plant; and the Office of Sustainability is paramount in these efforts.
