Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, Dr. Stark's research documents the affective experiences and working conditions of special educators. Her current research is informed by her prior experiences as a special educator in Chicago and her partnerships with schools in the greater Boston and Washington, D.C. areas.
Through her research, she aims to identify ways to improve pre-service teacher training and in-service support so that special educators find their work sustainable and fulfilling, and feel equipped to meet their students’ individualized goals without compromising their own wellbeing.
Dr. Stark has received funding from Boston University and Urban College of Boston. She was the principal investigator of a 2020 AERA Educational Research Service Projects award to study the experiences of early education professionals taking college coursework during the pandemic.
At ¶¶Òõ̽̽, Dr. Stark teaches Assessment in Special Education. She warmly invites special educators, school leaders, and students to contact her directly with ideas for future research, requests for research-related resources, and funny classroom stories.
