Before arriving at ̽̽, Abby taught Spanish at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. She has lived and studied in Madrid, Spain, receiving her MA in Spanish from New York University, and worked in the Dominican Republic as the on site director of the Northfield Mount Hermon Semester Abroad Program in San Cristóbal. She recently participated in a weeklong seminar “Cinema of the Global South” through the Faculty Network Seminar at New York University, studying Cuban revolutionary cinema up until the latest emerging voices in Latin American Cinema.
Abby is a classically trained pianist and has taken courses at ̽̽’s music department in theory, history, jazz, and accompaniment. Her teachers include classical pianist Annemieke McLane, jazz pianist Tom Cleary and master classes with Latin-Jazz Virtuoso, Eddie Palmieri. She has recently collaborated in several local theatre productions including O’Caligula with ̽̽ composer Patricia Julien, and Songs for a New World in addition to serving as an accompanist for Vermont Youth Orchestra musicians. She has also performed with Burlington-based bands including Grupo Sabor, recording on their 2009 CD, El resbaloso, and as invited guest for Trombonist Rick Davies’ CD release party Siempre Salsa.
Abby combines her love of music, literature, and film to enhance her language classes and offer her students a wide variety of perspectives into the Spanish-speaking world.
