Sanjay Sharma, dean of the Grossman School of Business at ̽̽ (̽̽), has been distinguished as the 2024 Dean of the Year by Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), the international business honor society for schools accredited by the International Association to Advance College Schools of Business (AACSB) which comprises the top 5% of business school programs around the world.

Beta Gamma Sigma also awarded ̽̽ the 2024 Bronze Outstanding Chapter Award, recognizing its active involvement in various society-sponsored activities and its commitment to advancing the Beta Gamma Sigma mission.

“These recognitions are so well deserved by Dean Sharma and ̽̽’s Beta Gamma Sigma chapter,” ̽̽ Provost Patricia Prelock said. “The consistent excellence and innovation of our business program drive academic achievement that leads directly to our graduates’ success throughout the professional world in Vermont and beyond. Dean Sharma has helped shape the university’s identity in the areas of entrepreneurship and sustainable business.” 

Dean of the Year 

Dean Sharma will be officially recognized for his unwavering support for students and ̽̽’s chapter at ICAM event in April. During his tenure as Dean of the Grossman School of Business, he has been responsible for raising well over $100 million for the naming of the school in 2015, doubling the size of the business school building, establishing 7 new endowed chairs and 3 new endowed professorships, launching the top-ranked Sustainable Innovation MBA program and for student scholarships, experiential learning and career development. 

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition,” Dean Sharma said. “AACSB accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. To be recognized by peer deans from 630 Beta Gamma Sigma schools from 38 countries is a high honor.” 

Bronze Outstanding Chapter Award 

Annually, Beta Gamma Sigma recognizes its most extraordinary chapters that best support the mission of the honor society and demonstrate excellence in chapter activities. This year ̽̽’s chapter of BGS, led by chapter advisor Barbara Arel and chapter administrator Cyndi Dowling, stood out among more than 630 global chapters spanning 38 countries to earn the prestigious Bronze Chapter Award.  

Previously, the chapter was awarded the 2023 Best Practice Chapter, 2023 Chapter Advisor of the Year, 2021 Outstanding Bronze Chapter, 2019 Best Practice in Founding Principles award and multiple highest honors chapter recognitions.  

“The additional recognition of our chapter not only reflects Grossman School’s commitment to supporting our students and fostering a vibrant BGS chapter at ̽̽, but also underscores the dedication of our entire community to excellence in business education,” Sharma added. 

Alongside this honor, BGS will grant a $750 scholarship to the Grossman School to recognize an exceptional student. The recipient will be announced during the 2024 BGS Induction Ceremony at the Grossman School on April 19, 2024.
