Each year ¶¶Òõ̽̽ (¶¶Òõ̽̽) honors esteemed faculty members for their contributions to innovative scholarship, exceptional teaching and advising, and outstanding community engagement. This year, two Grossman School faculty members were honored with prestigious awards by the provost's office, including , Director of Undergraduate Programs and a Senior Lecture, and , Schlesinger-Grossman Chair of Family Business at the Grossman School of Business.
President’s Distinguished Senior Lecturer and Lecturer Award
Dr. Tomas was the recipient of the President’s Distinguished Senior Lecturer and Lecturer Award, which recognizes the distinguished accomplishments of faculty who hold the Senior Lecturer or Lecturer rank for their outstanding teaching, scholarship, and service.
Along with her day-to-day responsibilities as lecturer and director of undergraduate programs, Dr. Tomas serves as Coordinator of the Eugene and Joan Kalkin Retailing Initiative, developed to establish academic and professional development of students in the area of retailing. She teaches courses on Retail Management, Corporate Retail Strategy, and Product and Brand Management. Dr. Tomas also leads the Professional Development Series courses for all first and second year students at Grossman School.
Amy designed and leads Grossman School’s PEAKS (Professional and Engagement Knowledge System) digital credentialing program. A long-standing member of the Curricular Affairs Committee of the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Faculty Senate, Dr. Tomas has worked with colleagues around the university on issues related to undergraduate and graduate educational policy and long-range academic planning. Most recently, she was invited to join the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Environmental Program Board of Advisors. Amy currently serves as the faculty advisor to the Grossman Student Advisory Committee.
University Distinguished Professor Award
Dr. Sharma received the University Distinguished Professor Award, the highest academic honor that ¶¶Òõ̽̽ bestows upon a faculty member. Holders of this title are recognized for having achieved international eminence within their respective fields of study and for the truly transformative nature of their contributions to advancing knowledge. As the Schlesinger-Grossman Chair of Family Business, Dr. Sharma is the co-founder of the Schlesinger Global Family Enterprise Competition, the largest family business case competition in the world.
Among the highest cited scholars in family business studies, Dr. Sharma’s research on succession, governance, innovation, next generation commitment, entrepreneurial leadership and sustainability in/by family enterprises has appeared in journals like the Academy of Management Learning & Education, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Family Business Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Venturing, among others. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Calgary and has received honorary doctorates from the Jönköping University in Sweden, and the University of Witten/Herdeckein Germany.
