Our congratulations to associate professor Suzanne Lowensohn, Grossman School of Business accounting faculty, on her appointment to the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council (GASAC) for a two-year term by the Financial Accounting Foundation.

Suzanne L. Lowensohn joined the Grossman School of Business accounting faculty in August 2016, and her primary area of research is governmental accounting and auditing. In addition to her role teaching managerial and governmental and not-for-profit accounting, Lowensohn was recently appointed director of the ̽̽ Grossman School of Business’s Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program. With this new GASAC appointment Lowensohn is excited to gain an in-depth knowledge of upcoming changes to governmental accounting principles to enhance the educational experience at ̽̽.

“I am honored and excited to now serve on the advisory board, participation on this council will allow me to share first-hand experience of the standard-setting process with students,” says Lowensohn. “I look forward to working alongside the leaders in the governmental accounting and financial reporting fields.”

The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) sets accounting and financial reporting standards for U.S. state and local government entities.  The Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council (GASAC), to which Lowensohn has been appointed, brings together representatives of GASB’s various constituencies to help establish GASB’s agenda and provide feedback on technical issues.

Students have the opportunity to learn more about governmental accounting principles in BSAD 269, while accounting standard setting is covered in BSAD 161 and 361.
