<p>When Dale and Michelle Rocheleau, Class of 1980, visit campus on a clear August morning, it is a return to the university that is at once about the past and the future. "I haven't been inside this house since I was a student," says Michelle as she tours the mansion at the northwest corner of Summit and Maple Streets. The Rocheleaus are among the many alumni working to bring new life and a new role to one of Burlington's most beautiful and historically rich structures.</p>

<p>Art professor Frank Owen closes out his final semester of teaching at ¶¶Òõ̽̽ in December and will retire next spring. Through the years Owen has been caretaker of the Slant Step, an object connected to American art history of the 1960s. In an interview, Owen reflects on the history of the Slant Step and the ways he has incorporated it into his teaching in the art studio.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Staffers in the Congressional Research Office were skeptical, to put it mildly, when University of Vermont political science professor Garrison Nelson approached them in 1975 about producing the first comprehensive history of legislative committees in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Such a volume would be impossible to produce, they said, with information buried in obscure resolutions deep in the archives.</p>
