<p>In 2013, Duncan Hilchey and Amy Christian found themselves looking for ways to make their enterprise, a scholarly journal featuring applied food systems research, financially sustainable.ÌýAs the field of food systems was picking up momentum in academia, editor in chief Hilchey and managing editor Christian decided to invite a few higher education institutions to be founding partners of the journal. The first university they approached was ¶¶Òõ̽̽.</p>

<p>Farming is a profession rife with the risk of bodily harm. Unfortunately, many farmers lack the sufficient health insurance to protect themselves and their family in the event of a medical crisis. In a world where tractors, animals, and exposure to the elements compound the potential health challenges any of us face, this means that many farmers are one injury away from financial collapse.</p>
<p>The adoption of the Affordable Care Act has opened up new possibilities for farmers to access insurance, but despite the national mandate, many farmers remain uninsured or underinsured. Researchers at ¶¶Òõ̽̽ are hoping to help.</p>

<p>Poutine—that unpretentious Quebecois dish originally made of fries, cheese curds and brown gravy—has always been part of my food identity… for better or worse. What people often do not realize about poutine is how its social status has not always been so high, and that the dish has actually been used as a way to mock Quebec society.</p>
From Inquiry to Action
¶¶Òõ̽̽'s Graduate Program in Food Systems, one of the cross-college interdisciplinary programs on campus that is managed by the Graduate College, cultivates students to be adaptable problem solvers and systems thinkers.
