Hot Works

What is hot work?

Hot work is any temporary operation involving open flames and/or producing heat or sparks. This includes, but not limited to grinding, cutting, brazing, soldering, or using a blowtorch.

This written Hot Work Management Program (PDF) is a means to analzye elevated work tasks and determine appropriate work practices to prevent injury, los of life, and fires or explosions that may result from "hot work" activities.

Employees will not be requied, nor allowed to perform any duties which involve "hot work" without a Hot Work Permit.

To request a Hot Work Permit, call Service Operations Support, and a Life Safety Technician will be dispatched to the site.

Plan Ahead – have available and provide:

  1. your name,
  2. phone number,
  3. work order number,
  4. inspection location, and
  5. time needed prior to hot work activities.

For a Sprinkler System Impairment call Service Operations Support, but this should be scheduled in advance and not the day of the impairment.
