Dear faculty and staff,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mandar Dewoolkar as Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS). His appointment began on October 1 and coincides with my own service as Acting Provost.
Dr. Dewoolkar has been the Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering for seven years and was a program director before that. His experience with graduate and undergraduate education, faculty mentoring, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and as Chair of one of CEMS’ largest departments—as well as his relational leadership style—will serve him well as Acting Dean.
Dr. Dewoolkar is a professional engineer and has extensive consulting and research experience. He won a Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award in 2007, a ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Outstanding Service Learning Faculty Award in 2010, and the CEMS Outstanding Faculty Member Award in 2017. He specializes in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. His research is interdisciplinary, and he routinely collaborates with engineers, hydrologists, geographers, geologists, statisticians, social scientists, historic preservationists, and educators. He is a ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Sustainability Fellow, a Service Learning Fellow, a Fellow of the Gund Institute for Environment, and a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
We’re grateful to Dr. Dewoolkar for his willingness to serve in this important role. I hope you will join me in congratulating him on this appointment.
Linda S. Schadler
