̽̽ Policies FAQ

Our goal is to simplify the understanding of the many external laws, regulations and University Policies, UOPs and Guidelines that members of the University community need to follow and to help them make good decisions.
Who is responsible for policies?
Body

Responsible Officials (ROs) have responsibility for the content and regular review and update of University Policies, UOPs and University Guidelines. The Office of Compliance and Privacy Services manages the institutional policy website and serves as a resource to Responsible Officials to help them satisfy their responsibilities as it relates to institutional policies and procedures.

Does this site contain all University policies and procedures?
Body

No. This site hosts institutional policies, procedures and guidelines. Individual departments, units, colleges, and divisions may have department-level policies, procedures and/or guidelines that apply to local level operations for those particular areas.

Additional policies that pertain to academic processes or specific University groups are posted separately. Click on the “Additional Policies” section on the right menu for links to these policies.

How do I know if I’ve got the most recent version of a policy, UOP or guideline?
Body

Any time a policy link opens to a webpage that starts with “uvm.edu/policies”, it indicates that the policy resides on this site and is the most current version available. If you are looking at a website that does not start with that leading web address or any other version (printed policy, PDF, etc.), we cannot guarantee that it is the most current version. You should always check the institutional policy website to ensure that you are working with the most up-to-date version.

My department has a policy that conflicts with one on this site. Which one do I follow?
Body

University policies, procedures, and guidelines that reside on the institutional policy website will always supersede any local-level policies, procedures and/or guidelines. Also, we take steps to ensure that any discrepancies between the policies, procedures, and guidelines on this site and any current collective bargaining agreements have been addressed prior to posting. In the event of a conflict between policies, the version on this website is the one that must be followed. If you feel that there is a conflict, please email us at policy@uvm.edu and include relevant links, attachments, and/or statements that you have identified as contradictory.
