BIO
Joshua BeneÅ¡ is the Associate Director for Research Facilities and Networks for both the Water Resources Institute (WRI) and the Field Research/Instruction and Land Stewardship Core (FRILS). Josh works to support the WRI, ¶¶Òõ̽̽ lands, field stations, and long-term monitoring programs through coordinating their management. He also connects the research that these areas support to regional and international networks.
Josh graduated from ¶¶Òõ̽̽ with a degree in Environmental Science from RSENR in 2011 and a Masters in Public Administration from CALS in 2017. He worked as a Research Technician for Dr. Breck Bowden from 2012 until 2016. In this role, he conducted fieldwork at Toolik Field Station in Northern Alaska during the summer and worked in the Rubenstein Ecosystem Science Lab during the rest of the year analyzing stream chemistry samples and acting as Lab Manager.
Josh moved to Wisconsin in 2017 where he assisted the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in implementing a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for Wisconsin’s Northeast Lakeshore. He also served as the Executive Director for a conservation nonprofit called Golden Sands Resource Conservation and Development Council (RC&D). As Executive Director, he worked on developing regional stewardship programs around sustainable agriculture, water quality, forest health, and wildlife habitat.
In 2021, Josh started in his current role at ¶¶Òõ̽̽. He is very passionate about utilizing his role to people together around shared facilities and properties to catalyze interdisciplinary learning and research opportunities.
In his free time, Josh loves to hike, bike, garden, and kayak with his family. He also enjoys downhill skiing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and skijoring.
