The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) EXPRESS is an internal, competitive funding program designed to stimulate research and scholarship by new early-career faculty members. Specifically, the EXPRESS program will provide awards up to $3,000 to newly hired, ¶¶Òõ̽̽ tenure-track, assistant professors. These awards are intended to provide aid to early-career faculty during their first year of appointment, in initiating research, scholarship, or creative works that will advance their careers.  

For 2024-2025, applicant budgets up to $3,000 will be considered. Applications are due by 11:59 on October 11th and award decisions will be made by November 8th, 2024. Funds will be made available on December 1, 2024 and must be expended by December 31st, 2025. (No-cost extension requests are typically not considered.)

OVPR EXPRESS is open to ¶¶Òõ̽̽ tenure-track assistant professors who began their appointment with ¶¶Òõ̽̽ on September 30th, 2023, or later. Proposals are reviewed by the senior administration of the Office of the Vice President for Research based on the potential for the funds to jumpstart a faculty member’s research, scholarship, or creative program. Use your description to provide the most compelling case in favor of your proposal.

How will the funds be used if awarded, and how will the use of the funds help jumpstart the research, scholarship, or creative activity of the applicant?

  1. Project Description (1-page maximum, single-spaced with ½ inch margins and a font of at least 11 point)
  2. Budget (1 page maximum)
    1. Please note that regular salary or summer salary, and conference fees, travel, and registration costs are not acceptable budget items. All other budget items must be justified in the description.
  3. References/Bibliography
  4. CV/Resume: Please include an abbreviated CV or resume (4 pages maximum and use the appropriate format for your discipline).
  5. Letter of Support from department chair or school dean, certifying that the applicant meets the eligibility criteria, and that the department or school will allow the faculty member the time necessary to participate.
