BIO

As the Manager of Collections and Exhibitions, I am responsible for the care, documentation, and access to the Museum collections, from art shipping to pulling objects for classes and researchers to updating the collections database.

I am honored to be a board member of the New England Museum Association and a regional representative for the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries. I am also the board chair of the Mill Museum in Winooski.

Initially trained in historical archaeology, I've been working at museums and historical societies since 1993, and recently, I celebrated 25 years at the Fleming. I am very interested in local and community history and am the volunteer Curator of the Vermont Queer Archives at the Pride Center of Vermont and am currently finishing my MA in History here at ̽̽.

Marcelino Gonçalves' “Composition with Pairs” painting

I love this painting—it has a queer energy to it and is beautiful. I had a chance to chat with the artist a few years ago and he was great. The late collector, David Beitzel, was an advisory board member, denizen of the NYC art world and ̽̽ alum. It's a piece that requires some deep looking—every time I look at it I see something new.

Marcelino Gonçalves (United States, b. 1969) Composition with Pairs, 2007. Oil and graphite on panel. Gift of the David Beitzel '80 Private Collection. 2022.4.1
