Assistant Professor

Originally from outside Seattle, Prof. Michael Brasino performed undergraduate research in biomaterials and competed in a synthetic biology competition at the University of Washington. These experiences inspired him to pursue a PhD focused on genetically engineered materials, first at UC San Diego and then CU Boulder. He then became a postdoctoral scholar at Oregon Health and Science University, where he began to build and characterize genetically engineered probiotic bacteria as cancer-detecting probes. He is now expanding on this work in his newly created Bacterial Biosensors Laboratory.
