Program Overview
The Linguistics Program offers a major and a minor in linguistics. Our students engage in the study of language through its form and meaning, as well as its social and cultural significance. ¶¶Òõ̽̽ linguistics professors do research and teach courses on several issues surrounding language as a human capacity that range from the descriptive to the applied realms. Some of the courses we offer are: Second Language Acquisition, Syntax, Sociolinguistics, Historical Linguistics, Language & Media, Phonology, Pragmatics, Linguistic Diversity in the US, among others. Students are also encouraged to study abroad, and to engage in research opportunities. The program also offers an undergraduate certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, which consists of a 5-course sequence combining theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the teaching of English to adults.
