BIO

Dr. Bhurosy is a socio-behavioral scientist whose research evaluates determinants of food and nutrition insecurity in vulnerable populations and seeks to generate evidence to guide interventions that address food security and nutritional support. In particular, Bhurosy’s research program examines community-based strategies to understand real-world challenges underlying food security and develop effective, culturally appropriate solutions for underserved young survivors of cancer and college students. Bhurosy’s passion for nutrition and health equity is deeply rooted in her experiences as a community outreach worker in Mauritius. There, she worked with racially and ethnically diverse populations to improve their access to nutritious food on a limited budget.

Beyond her research, Dr. Bhurosy is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of diverse researchers. Drawing upon her experiences as an international female scholar of color and first-generation student, Dr. Bhurosy has created and continues to foster inclusive mentoring opportunities for students of all backgrounds and spaces for other women of color and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). She established the first BIPOC and International Graduate Mentoring Group in the Food Systems Program at ¶¶Òõ̽̽.

Bhurosy’s scholarship has earned her several prestigious awards, including the Society of Behavioral Medicine Inaugural Peer Review Academy Award in 2024, the Monica Baskin Diversity Institute for Emerging Leaders Award in 2021, the Indiana University Martin Luther King Jr. Building Bridges Award in 2019, the Mohammad R.
