Appala Raju Badireddy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Materials Science, where he maintains an active research program in Water Treatment and Environmental Nanotechnology. He is an environmental engineer, with expertise in nanotechnology-enabled water treatment and nutrient recovery, sensors for environmental monitoring, novel membrane processes, fate and transport of emerging contaminants, environmental viruses and biofilms, and engineered nanomaterials for environmental and biomedical applications.
Dr. Badireddy continues to supervise post-doctoral, graduate, undergraduate, and local high school student researchers. He teaches environmental chemodynamics, physical and chemical processes in water and wastewater treatment systems, and water and wastewater engineering at ¶¶Òõ̽̽. He has authored or co-authored more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and two book chapters in the past 20 years. His latest projects include studies on environmental dynamics of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), advanced membranes for nutrient recovery and PFAS remediation, forward osmosis for water reuse, impacts of fracking fluids on subsurface biofilms, green disinfection strategies for waterborne pathogens, and microsensors for nutrients and contaminant monitoring in the environment.
