1:00 Late Blight of Potato and Tomato - Dr. Rob Wick
This past season we had a number of outbreaks of late blight in Vermont. Dr. Wick is a plant pathologist specializing in vegetables at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He will explain the history, life cycle and management strategies for control of this potentially devastating disease.
1:45 Research on Insect?Killing Fungi to Control Tarnished Plant Bug - Houping Liu
TPB is one of our most troublesome horticultural pests. The Vermont Vegetable and Berry Growers Association has provided financial support to the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Entomology Lab for the study of 'entomopathogenic' fungi that attack TPB. Houping Liu, a doctoral candidate working at the lab, will describe his research efforts to screen different fungi for their ability to infect TPB.
