<p>Researchers in ¶¶Òõ̽̽’s biology department studied ant reproductive behavior in two related ant species to learn how queens can produce sterile male worker ants, necessary to the colony’s survival. When the queen mates with males from the related species, the offspring are sterile – a good outcome for the queen but a bad for males, which want to produce offspring that can reproduce. A feature on the research also appeared in the <em>Los Angeles Times</em>.</p>

<p>¶¶Òõ̽̽ psychiatry faculty member Hugh Garavan was quoted and his project profiled in a story in <em>Science</em> magazine on a large award from the National Science Foundation enabling researchers to combine existing data from labs around the world, creating robust data sets. Garavan is part of a team that won a $2 million award to examine the biological bases for a variety of mental illnesses.</p>

<p>The Associated Press profiled ¶¶Òõ̽̽’s Connecting Cultures program, which provides culturally sensitive counseling to refugees who have suffered torture and trauma in the home countries. Stories also appeared in media across the country. In addition to the <em>Miami Herald</em>, papers included the <em>Providence Journal, Tampa Tribune, Sacramento Bee, Albany Times Union, Kansas City Star</em> and the <em>San Antonio Express</em>.</p>
