<p>"Any rock climbers out there?" The question hung in the air like a climber about to summit a challenging rock face. Then a few hands at the back of the class crept up, bashfully. The query, posed by Chris Mattrick of the Green Mountain National Forest, was aimed at the 64 seniors in NR 206, "Environmental Problem-Solving and Impact Assessment," and had a serious purpose behind the offhand delivery.</p>

<p>As part of ¶¶Òõ̽̽’s growing commitment to service learning — the idea of educating students through acts that benefit others — Professor David Raphael’s class teaches students how to design, plan and construct environmentally friendly infrastructure projects.</p>

<p>The classification certifies that ¶¶Òõ̽̽ has a significant and institutionalized local, national and global commitment to community engagement through reciprocal partnerships that benefit both community partners and the faculty, students and staff at the university.</p>
