When an external party wishes to receive tangible material from, or transfer tangible material to, a researcher at ¶¶Òõ̽̽, ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations can help put in place a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA). ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations reviews all incoming and outgoing MTAs to ensure that the interests of ¶¶Òõ̽̽ and its researchers are protected.

Detailed instructions are available below. If after reading these sections, you have questions about MTAs, email mta@uvm.edu with your request.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
If you are trying to receive or transfer data of any sort, please contact Sponsored Project Administration at spa@uvm.edu.

Receiving Materials into ¶¶Òõ̽̽

¶¶Òõ̽̽ investigators who request tangible material from a third party may receive an MTA from the provider investigator or institution that needs review by ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations and authorization by a ¶¶Òõ̽̽ signatory. When submitting the MTA to ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations for review, the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ investigator should complete the following steps:

  • Download and complete the File MTA-In Request Form (.DOCX). This form provides ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations with information to aid in its review of the provider’s MTA. Please note that the form must be filled in by the Principal Investigator of the lab.
  • E-mail the MTA, preferably in Word format, and completed MTA-In Request Form to mta@uvm.edu. Please forward any e-mail correspondence with the provider as well.

The ¶¶Òõ̽̽ investigator will receive a confirmatory email from ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations upon receipt of the MTA and MTA-In Form. In order to comply with ¶¶Òõ̽̽ policies, funding obligations, and limit the restrictions placed on the investigator, revisions to the MTA may be necessary. If revisions are required, ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations will negotiate the terms with the provider. ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations will copy the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Investigator on all substantive e-mail correspondence unless he/she requests otherwise. When the MTA is ready for execution, ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations will coordinate signatures with the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ investigator and the provider institution.

Addgene Orders

The Addgene plasmid repository is a non-profit organization and requires that an MTA be signed between ¶¶Òõ̽̽ and the depositing entity for each plasmid ordered. Upon placing an Addgene order, please send a completed File MTA-In Request Form (.DOCX) to mta@uvm.edu and the Addgene MTA will be reviewed and executed online.

Sending Materials Out of ¶¶Òõ̽̽

¶¶Òõ̽̽ investigators who wish to transfer tangible material to a third party should complete the following steps:

  • Download and complete the File MTA-Out Request Form (.DOCX). This form provides ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations with information on the material and the proposed transfer to draft an appropriate MTA. Please note that the form must be filled in by the Principal Investigator of the lab.
  • E-mail the MTA-Out Request Form to mta@uvm.edu. Please forward any e-mail correspondence with the requester as well.

The ¶¶Òõ̽̽ investigator will receive a confirmatory email from ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations upon receipt of the MTA-Out Request Form. ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations will review the request form, prepare an MTA, and e-mail the MTA to the requester for review and processing. ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations will copy the Principal Investigator on all substantive e-mail correspondence unless he/she requests otherwise. When the requester returns a signed copy of the MTA, ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Innovations will circulate a PDF copy to the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ investigator for signature and authorize the release of the material.
