Interests & Expertise: Ashley coordinates K-12 watershed science education programming and professional development opportunities for teachers, and supports undergraduate internship experiences. A large portion of her position is overseeing the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Watershed Alliance, which is a ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Extension and Lake Champlain Sea Grant collaborative K-12 education program focused on increasing watershed awareness and stewardship throughout the Lake Champlain Basin and Vermont. She works on environmental literacy initiatives locally through the VT State-Wide Environmental Education Program and the Champlain Basin Education initiative and nationally through National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the North American Association of Environmental Education.

Research focus: Marie-Pier is broadly interested in the ecology of freshwater ecosystems and food webs, and how their functioning may be disrupted by global change. She tries to use a variety of approaches to address research questions, combining data syntheses, field-based experiments, and observational surveys. As part of her postdoctoral research in the Stockwell lab, she will pursue interests in winter limnology and investigate the food sources and processes supporting lake food webs under ice.

Research focus: Justin is broadly interested in dynamics and energy flow in food webs. For his postdoctoral research, he is developing a food web model of Lake Champlain to better understand the impact different ecological events have had on the lake’s food web as well as predict what we might expect to see in the future.
