Doctoral program: Neuroscience
Mentor: Benedek Erdos, Pharmacology
Jenan Husain’s family moved around a lot when she was growing up. As a result, she spent her childhood in both India and United States. She completed her undergraduate work at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), where she received a bachelor’s degree in both Psychology and Education Sciences. During her time at UCI, she became fascinated with memory and so joined Dr. Susanne Jaeggi's Working Memory and Plasticity Lab where she investigated the cognitive underpinnings of changes caused by memory training. Later, she joined the Experimental Psychology master's program at California State University, Fullerton, where she conducted behavioral neuroscience research in Dr. Adam Roberts's lab. There, she investigated memory formation in larval zebrafish with the goal of creating whole-brain engrams and measuring changes in memory-related synaptic structure. Currently, Husain is hoping to delve deeper into how different types of brain dysfunctions affect memory, which is what brought her to ¶¶Òõ̽̽’s graduate program in neuroscience. Beyond her academic pursuits, Husein enjoys cooking, reading, writing, painting, and going on leisurely walks in beautiful Vermont.
