Dear ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Community,
Today, the Board of Trustees officially launched the search for ¶¶Òõ̽̽’s 28th president. The transformative success of the last several years has positioned the university to provide an ever more exceptional student experience and make even greater impact through research, innovation, and engagement efforts. The Board is grateful for the contributions of so many across campus to this success and looks ahead with anticipation to the opportunity to appoint our next president.
Electing a president is the most solemn, critical responsibility of the Board. Today, we took the first essential step in our process: appointing and charging a Presidential Search Advisory Committee to manage the search and advise the Board in its selection of the president. Vice Chair Cindy Barnhart and I will co-chair the committee, which comprises broadly representative members of the university community, and includes students, staff, and faculty appointed in accordance with the University Manual. I look forward to the collaborative work of the committee in the weeks and months to come.
The university has also retained the consulting firm Isaacson, Miller to assist with our search. The committee will work closely with representatives from the firm to create a leadership profile and identify, review, and recruit candidates for the presidency.
In coordination with the advisory committee and the search firm, the Board will also look to our university community over the next several weeks for its essential and meaningful input to inform the creation of the profile and identify the crucial leadership qualities we will seek in our next president. Opportunities to provide that input will be announced soon and extend throughout the search process.
Please look for information about those opportunities, and updates throughout the search, at www.uvm.edu/presidentialsearch.
We have a tradition of strong leadership at ¶¶Òõ̽̽, and the future ahead is bright. We look forward to working with you to identify and attract the next president our institution needs and deserves.
Best wishes,
Ron E. Lumbra
Chair, University of Vermont Board of Trustees
