Last weekend, we received the sad news that our colleague, Research Assistant Professor Jarlath O’Neil-Dunne, died suddenly while cross-country skiing in Craftsbury. Our hearts are heavy thinking of Jarlath’s beautiful family and all his colleagues in the Rubenstein School, the Spatial Analysis Lab, and throughout the campus who were touched by his larger-than-life presence, his brilliant mind, and his incredible sense of humor. Our campus, the state, and Jarlath’s colleagues across the country with whom he worked so diligently all share in the heartbreak over his passing.

The university is planning a memorial service at Ira Allen Chapel on January 20 at 10:30 a.m. for all who wish to gather to celebrate Jarlath’s life and mourn our collective loss. Additionally, the family has established a scholarship fund in Jarlath’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to honor Jarlath by supporting this scholarship fund. Information on the scholarship fund is forthcoming.

As we begin the new semester, I hope you will take the opportunity to reach out to anyone you know who may be affected by the loss of Jarlath. He was a vibrant and highly respected member of our community whose impact extends far beyond the borders of our campus.

Sincerely,
