Important updates have been made to the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Directory that create a more respectful, inclusive campus community. These updates resolve most issues with pronouns and lived names that many have experienced with Microsoft Teams and other campus systems.

As of July 25th the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Directory now includes a distinct field for indicating your pronouns. To set your pronouns, . A preview box will allow you to see how this information will appear in systems such as Microsoft Teams. Entering your pronouns is strongly encouraged to help create a more inclusive and respectful campus community. As always, it is completely optional.

NOTE FOR STAFF AND FACULTY: This update will reset any changes you may have already made to your display name. To reapply, or apply, your display name values to your account, update your lived name fields on the . For example, if you are currently using a display name that is different than your legal name (e.g., Kate instead of Kathryn, Eli instead of Elisabeth), you will need to reenter those changes in the Lived Name fields. More information about how to make changes to your lived name is available in the Knowledge Base.

For many years, all students at ¶¶Òõ̽̽ have been able to indicate their lived name (also known as preferred name) and pronouns to the University community regardless of whether or not they have legally changed their names. These most recent updates expand this option to faculty and staff systems in addition to improving the continuity of this user information across ¶¶Òõ̽̽ IT systems.

For more information and instructions on how to make these changes please visit https://go.uvm.edu/name-pronouns. Please note that changes generally occur within 24 hours across systems. Microsoft Teams may take longer due to caching.

Thank you for your feedback and willingness to let us know when errors occurred previously. Your patience while we worked to find a solution was much appreciated and we are excited to be making these improvements available to our community. We are deeply grateful to many campus partners, especially ETS, for their work on this solution.
