BIO

Rev. Dr. James D. Ross II serves as Senior Director of Identity Centers and Director of the Interfaith Center at ¶¶Òõ̽̽. In this role, he leads the work and staff of the Interfaith Center in achieving the Center’s mission of advancing religious pluralism on the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ campus and beyond. As the executive leader of identity centers, he partners with the directors of the Mosaic Center for Students of Color, the Women and Gender Equity Center, and the Prism Center as they achieve work specific to individual centers, advance a common vision, and collaborate with campus partners to advance student learning and development.

Rev. Dr. Ross is affectionately known as by Rev. James and Dr. J. He previously led diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the United Church of Christ, was a church pastor, and has two decades of staff and executive experience in organizations working to enhance queer, gender, racial, and economic justice, and reform the country’s criminal legal policies and practices. He began his career as a journalist and was an appointee of the mayors of two cities, including New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Rev. Dr. Ross has an undergraduate degree in journalism, graduate degrees in both American Culture Studies and Divinity, and a doctorate in African-Centered Religious Thought and Ministry.

Rev. Dr. James D. Ross II serves as Senior Director of Identity Centers and Director of the Interfaith Center at ¶¶Òõ̽̽.
