Teen Science Cafes

Join us during the school year for both in-person and virtual cafes where you will meet scientists, learn about their work, explore different science pathways, and engage in hands-on activities and informal discussions. Open to all youth in grades 7-12.

The cafe schedule, flyers and registration links are posted in late August/early September. We host one cafe each month from September through May.

During the summer months we host Summer of Science which is a collection of different science workshops.

Teen Science Cafe Presenters Wanted

Are you a scientist, engineer or technology specialist that could share your work with Vermont teens? Do you know someone that fits this description to whom you could pass along this message?

The VTeen 4-H Science Pathways Cafe is the go-to place for teens interested in learning about different science pathways and connecting with real Vermont scientists, engineers, and technology specialists!

The teens love coming to the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Campus, interacting in-person with scientists and their peers, and engaging in some cool hands-on activities. But we know that not everyone can make it to campus and sometimes a topic does not always lend itself to an easy, onsite, hands-on activity. So we also will continue to offer some virtual cafes as well.

The cafes take place at the Davis Center on the ¶¶Òõ̽̽ Campus, but we are open to moving to another location if it helps to better showcase your work/research. Virtual cafes often take place on a Tuesday night from 7-8 pm.

We are trying to represent a wide range of science, engineering and technology topics so Vermont teens can begin to see the different STEM pathways that exist right here in Vermont.

If you have an idea for a teen science cafe, then could you please provide the following information by July 25:

  1. Name
  2. STEM area, work or research focus
  3. For the in-person teen science cafes, the teens enjoy them most when there is hands-on learning. What hands-on activity/activities could you do to showcase your work/research/area of science?

And, we would like to invite you to come speak to the 4-H Science Ambassadors on Wednesday, August 10 between 2:00-6:00 pm when they are on campus planning out the cafe schedule and other science activities they will be doing. They will be holding 20 minutes time slots to meet with potential cafe presenters, learn about your work and ask you questions to help focus on your hands-on activities. Meeting with the Science Ambassadors has proven to be extremely helpful for past cafe presenters and I strongly encourage you to sign up for this. This is also very exciting for the teens and an important leadership role for them.

Thank you for considering this and/or passing it along to others that may be able to help!
