BIO

Dr. J.D. Sheppard, PT, D.P.T. is a board-certified specialist in orthopedic physical therapy. Prior to entering academia, he gained over 10 years of clinical experience in musculoskeletal physical therapy practice with a focus on treating runners and individuals with foot and injuries. During his time in clinical practice Dr. Sheppard served as a mentor, sports residency faculty member, clinical instructor, and clinic manager. Dr. Sheppard’s passion for teaching and mentoring in the clinic led him to complete Duke’s Faculty Development Residency and enter academia.

Throughout his career Dr. Sheppard has been heavily involved in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) on both the state and national level. His work with the association has focused on promoting evidence-based practice, advocating for the profession, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the association, profession, and society. Among other positions he has served as APTA Maryland President, a delegate to the House of delegates, APTA Maryland Director of Government Relations, and is currently a member of the APTA Public Policy and Advocacy Committee.
