Peter Shear has been teaching in the Department of Geography and Geosciences since 2001. A native of Royalton, Vermont, he has lived in Ecuador since 2003 where he is the Executive Director of the human and environmental rights organization APT-Norte. He designs and manages integrated rural development, environmental education, reforestation, agroecology, and conservation projects in Ecuador. He regularly offers study abroad courses for the department in Ecuador during winter session, spring break and summer session. Most recently, he has offered The Politics of Land Use in Ecuador: Resource Wars, Alternative Social Models (GEOG 2730), & Agroecology, and YasunÃ: The Battle over Oil, Biodiversity and Cultural Survival in Ecuador's Amazon (GEOG 2730).
