BIO

I am a public health advocate and researcher specializing in food systems. My work, shaped by experiences in Nigeria and the United States, focuses on preventing chronic diseases linked to dietary choices and food insecurity in underserved communities.

My research began in Nigeria, where I investigated foodborne illnesses from animal products and poor hygiene practices. This led to a published study in the IOSR Journal of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, advocating for better hygiene in abattoirs to combat antibiotic resistance.

As a consultant for the African Field Epidemiology Network, supported by the CDC, I co-developed programs to address food insecurity in communities affected by terrorism and who faced displacement, and lack of access to local farms. My work in disease surveillance and outbreak response contributed to the eradication of poliovirus in Nigeria. Additionally, I taught veterinary medical students at a Nigerian university veterinary teaching hospital, about food security from the farms to the final consumers.

In the U.S., I collaborated on a study; A systematic review of factors associated with student use of campus food pantries: implications for addressing barriers and facilitating use. published in BioMedCentral Public Health (2024) and also created a policy brief to improve fresh produce access in the university's food pantries and presented it to the university president, emphasizing the importance of equitable access to nutritious food and showcasing my commitment to practical solutions.

Currently, as a PhD student in Food Systems at ¶¶Òõ̽̽ (¶¶Òõ̽̽), I am focused on food security among the elderly, aiming to understand socioeconomic factors and develop sustainable support systems. I hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Master in Veterinary Public Health, Disaster Risk Management, and Development Studies from Nigeria, and recently completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) at Hofstra University, New York. I look forward to contributing to advancements in food systems research at ¶¶Òõ̽̽.
