BIO

Ihsan is a PhD student in Animal Biosciences, originally from Syria. He aspires to become a physician-scientist and is particularly interested in exploring the complex relationship between diet, alcohol consumption, and fatty liver disease. Before pursuing his PhD, Ihsan worked as an Internist Resident Doctor at Aleppo University Hospital and served as a Health Officer with several NGOs. He holds an MD from the University of Aleppo, Syria, an MSc in Public Health from the University of Debrecen, Hungary, and a joint Master’s degree in Public Health in Emergencies from the University of Oviedo, Spain, and Karolinska Institute, Sweden.

In his previous research, Ihsan investigated how medical comorbidities, including cardiometabolic diseases, influence trauma outcomes. He also studied the impact of behavioral risk factors, such as western diet and physical inactivity, on diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. His current dissertation focuses on the interaction between binge alcohol drinking and a Western diet in causing fatty liver disease, using translational mice models.

Outside of academia, Ihsan enjoys outdoor activities, reading, going to the gym, and playing chess.
